CARE AND HANDLING OF MODERN FURNITURE DOORS
- Modern Furniture Doors are designed for installation in an area protected by a porch or overhang from excessive exposure to weather extremes.
- Handle doors carefully. Surfaces will be damaged by careless handling and dirty hands. Do not drag and avoid rain spots on exposed surfaces before sealing.
- Doors should be stored laying flat in a well ventilated dry area. Ensure any exposed edges are sealed prior to storage.
- Allow doors to become conditioned to site temperatures and as soon as shrinkwrap is removed seal or prime all six surfaces including cutouts. The sealing coat is the most important finishing coat you will apply - it seals against moisture and dictates the durability of the subsequent finishing coats. Pay careful attention to the bottom edge as this is the most likely entry point for moisture particularly when hung in aluminium joinery. Fill any holes and seal well. If the door is prehung remove from hinges for finishing.
- Always paint or varnish doors while lying flat and prior to hanging. Ask your decorator outlet for advice on coating your door and about follow-up treatment that may be needed annually.
- Before hanging check the door carefully for any damage or manufacturing fault. Check the door frame opening for size and squareness. If the opening is not square the door may need trimming to size. Ensure equal amounts are trimmed from either side and/or top and bottom of the door allowing for sealing coats. Maximum trim or easing on each edge is 10mm.
- Modern Furniture Doors must be fitted with at least three hinges. Allow clearances of 1.5mm on the hinge side and 3mm on the lock side. Locate top hinge 150mm from top of the door, centre the middle hinge and fit the bottom hinge 200mm from the door bottom.
- Finish should be in clear varnish, light stain or light colour paint. Do not finish in dark paint colours.
WARRANTY
Modern Furniture Doors are crafted to a high quality from quality materials and are guaranteed to be free of timber defects and workmanship faults for a period of 5 years. Any claims made under this warranty must be made to the supplier from whom the door was pur-chased.
Note: Liability shall under no circumstances exceed the price of the defective door.
FINISHING TIPS
- Always use exterior paints or marine varnishes and carefully follow the manufacturers instructions.
- When painting use a 4 coat system: i.e. primer/seal-er, undercoat, and two top coats.
- When varnishing, a 3 coat or 4 coat system should be used. Varnish finishes should be inspected regu-larly as they require more maintenance than paint finishes.
